Chennai City FC vs Kingfisher East Bengal – Preview

In the final game of the 14th round of Hero I-League, Chennai City FC play hosts to one of the most consistent teams in the competition – East Bengal.  Two teams in different halves of the table fight it out for three points as Chennai seek to gain some respite whereas East Bengal on the other hand would climb to top of the table with a win.

Having prevailed against the Champions at home, Chennai City FC now face a daunting task. The home team put up a solid defensive performance in the South Indian Derby and they found balance between youth and experience. By taking the lead, thanks to an own goal, Chennai City FC were quite good in their defensive side though BFC looked brilliant in flashes. As we know the attacking threats possessed by them, it was expected that the home team would love to sit back and keep the away team at bay rather than taking the game to them. BFC on the other hand favored their possession based approach and tried to play with fluidity. This is how the game panned out and Chennai City played well exactly how their manager would’ve wanted.

After a shocking loss at home against Churchill Brothers, East Bengal would do everything in order to take all the points from the game as three important points would send them to the coveted top spot. Being the top scorers of the league by amassing 24 goals from 13 games, East Bengal have showed what it takes to be the most attacking team in the league. In the past they had scored three past Karanjit’s net and the South Indian team should do well in order to get anything out from the game.

And as we can expect, the match may be played in a similar way akin to the previous game with Chennai falling back and allowing the opposition to enter their field and thereby looking to hit them on the counters.

Team News

Chennai City FC

With Amiri gone after the end of the last game, it was expected that the coach may field in young local talents like he had in the previous games. As far as Chennai are concerned, Marcos Thank comes into the eleven which is the only change from the previous game. His addition will definitely add the physicality going upfront.

East Bengal

As far as East Bengal are concerned, coach Trevor Morgan has rung in five changes. Arnab Mondal, Rahul Bheke, Willis Plaza, Narayan Das and Lalrindika Ralte come into side to face Chennai as they look to grab all the three points from the game.
